'What are you holding with your hands? ' , 2024 , Digital Photography, 40 X 50 cm
Created during a visit to my hometown of Incheon, South Korea, this performative portrait features my younger sister, Tae Jung, interacting with her daughter’s toys and personal objects. Drawing from familiar forms of childhood role-play, the work reflects on how ideas of femininity are learned, repeated, and culturally inherited across generations.
By placing domestic and playful objects within an adult context, the image examines the persistence of gender expectations within contemporary Korean society. The work questions patriarchal ideals and explores alternative representations of women beyond historically fixed roles and stereotypes.
